Release notes: August 2026

This release brings a large set of changes to Smith. The headlines are prompts you can create and keep, a rebuilt usage and billing view, clearer control over which models your project can use, and a much stronger file and folder model.

Everything below is live now. If something here does not match what you see, your project may not have the feature enabled yet, and your administrator can confirm.

Prompts you can create and keep

Until now the prompt library was something you used. Now it is something you build.

• Create your own prompts. You can write a prompt once, save it, and reuse it instead of retyping or keeping it in a note somewhere.
• Manage prompts from one place. Your prompts appear in a table in My Workspace, where you can act on them directly and filter to find the one you want.

Personas are easier to read and stay put

• See what a persona does without opening it. A persona's pre-prompt, the underlying instruction that shapes how it responds, is now shown on its card.
• Find personas faster. The persona table now supports search, filtering and sorting.
• Your selection persists. Once you choose a persona in a conversation it stays selected. You no longer need to reselect it as you go.

Conversations

• Chat history. Past conversations are available from a history drawer, and you can manage them from there.
• Stop a response. A response that is still generating can be canceled, and shows a pending state while it stops.
• Edit and delete comments. Comments are no longer permanent once posted.
• Clearer failure states. When something goes wrong, Smith now explains what happened rather than failing quietly.
• Mobile chat history now follows the same structure as desktop.

Files and folders

This is the largest area of change in the release.

• Email and calendar files are supported. You can now upload .msg, .eml and .ics files directly, instead of copying their contents into a document first.
• Consistent upload checks. File formats are validated the same way wherever you upload from, so a file that is accepted in one place is not rejected in another.
• Filenames show their format. The file extension is now part of the displayed name.
• Workspace files and uploaded files are separate. Files you have added to your workspace and files you have attached to a conversation are now listed distinctly, so it is clear which is which when you attach something.
• Folder permissions. Folder access is managed from My Workspace, and can be granted from a folder's detail view.
• Permissions are properly enforced. Access is respected when uploading into a shared folder, and Editors and Contributors no longer see a delete action on other people's files and folders.
• Filter by file type to narrow a long list quickly.
• Folders are easier to start. You can create your first top level folder directly from the empty state, and folders remember which ones you had expanded.
• Choose a real destination. Uploads and moves now go into a folder you pick or create, rather than the top level of the workspace.
• Large spreadsheets. Very large spreadsheet files are no longer previewed in full. The file still uploads and can still be used.

Models

• Three base models are included with Smith and are shown as included.
• Advanced models are purchased, then activated. Until a model is activated it appears in a locked state.
• Advanced models can be deactivated if your project no longer needs them.
• Cost indicators on each model make the relative cost of a choice visible before you make it.
• Only activated models are selectable. Project members no longer see models the project has not activated in the chat model list.
• Multi-model is off by default. If you want to run a prompt across more than one model, switch it on first.

Usage and billing

• A usage view with at-a-glance cards showing where you stand without digging.
• Breakdown by member and by model, so you can see what is driving usage rather than just the total.
• Usage is calculated month to date.
• Alert thresholds. Set a point at which you want to be warned, and an alert banner appears as you approach or pass it.
• An administrator controlled cap for projects that need a hard ceiling.
• A dedicated view for non-billable projects, so the usage screen makes sense whether or not your project is billed.
• Corrected cost display. Usage costs now display accurately.

Teams and access

• A team roster showing who is on a project, including on non-billable projects.
• Smith access is set per user. Administrators can turn a person's access on or off, with a confirmation step. A user without Smith access cannot use chat.

Speed and reliability

Not everything in a release is visible. This one included substantial performance work across initial platform load, chat response, project switching, file selection and workspace transitions, along with accessibility improvements to typography and a set of responsive layout fixes.

• Persona selection no longer resets during a conversation.
• Duplicate uploads and upload errors resolved.
• Incorrect title on the move action corrected.
• Long file and folder names now display properly.
• The unfavorite action on a folder now has a clear label.
• Create folder now validates what you type.
• Timestamp display corrected.
